WHO WE ARE

It can be difficult to make the right decisions with your wealth in a complicated financial system. We work with you to navigate the complexities and simplify the decisions you take.

Our company was founded on a vision of ethical and professional practice. We strive for excellence above all else. Our directors, Alex Shairp and Qasim Younis are passionate about managing your wealth for the modern world. As an agile firm, we are well-positioned to adapt to the ever-changing economic landscape.

ALEX SHAIRP

DIRECTOR & INDEPENDENT FINANCIAL ADVISER

Alex grew up in rural Argyll before succumbing to the allure of the Big Smoke. On arrival in Glasgow, he spent several years working in financial services before graduating with BA (Hons) in Finance, Investment & Risk. He also holds the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning and is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).

Having spent a lot of time speaking to consumers about their finances, Alex became passionate about improving financial capability. This has led to a career dedicated to helping people make the most of their hard-earned wealth. He volunteers time to mentor graduating university students in the profession and is a PFS Education Champion for the My Personal Finance Skills program.

As a father, Alex is keen to leave behind a healthy planet for the next generations and believes we can all work towards a common good. He will advise you with the same compassion as his own family and takes pride in developing trusting long-term relationships.

Most of his time away from work is spent with Alex’s young family and two dogs.

QASIM YOUNIS

DIRECTOR & INDEPENDENT FINANCIAL ADVISER

Qasim grew up in Bearsden, just outside of Glasgow. The 2008 financial crisis inspired him to pursue a university degree, before graduating with a BA (Hons) in Finance, Investment & Risk. He also holds the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Diploma in regulated Financial Planning.

Qasim has always been surrounded by professionals and entrepreneurs who have placed particular importance on wealth management. Qasim went on to further enhance his knowledge and skills at institutions such as Barclays, Morgan Stanley, and Abrdn. This experience has allowed Qasim to operate and advise his clients at a high level, constantly striving to improve and do better.

Qasim very much believes in the saying “respect is earned not given”. He aims to treat everyone in his life with respect and will go above and beyond to help others.

Most of Qasim’s time away from work is spent with his family, in particular his young daughter, who keeps him on his toes.

Alex and Qasim met while working together at a firm of Chartered Financial Planners in Glasgow. This led to a meeting of minds and recognition that financial planning could be done better.

ACCREDITATIONS

Blackmount Private Wealth is proud to be accredited under the Good Business Charter. The GBC consists of 10 components https://www.goodbusinesscharter.com/ for a responsible business that helps to promote ethical behaviours towards clients, colleagues, and the community. This helps us to uphold our core values.

ETHICAL AND SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES ARE FOUNDING PRINCIPLES OF BLACKMOUNT PRIVATE WEALTH.

We accept there is an urgent need to take the environmental crisis seriously and do what we can to sustain the environment for the next generations. We have committed to reduce the environmental impact of our business where possible and work towards making positive change. This extends to the advice we give to our clients. Where it is suitable to do so, we will encourage the use of ESG (green) rated investments.

For every paper report issued, we ask that a £5 donation is made to the Trillion Trees Reforest Fund. This could plant or restore one tree (and ensure it is looked after to grow into the future).

WE'RE ALWAYS AIMNG TO DO BETTER.

Blackmount Private Wealth has partnered with Capability Scotland to give back to our local communities. We will donate 2% of our annual profit to our charity partner each year and assist with volunteering (where our skills are desired).

We support the Financial Vulnerability Taskforce and its Charter. In doing so, our professional advisers act as a safe pair of hands for those who experience vulnerable circumstances. We act with compassion and also tailor our processes to suit individual needs.

ABOUT

Over the past 75 years Capability Scotland (charity number SC011330) has sought to be a major ally to disabled people by supporting them to have full equality of opportunity and participation as citizens of Scotland. Capability Scotland delivers expertise in supporting people with the most severe and complex needs, including physical, communication and learning disabilities, complex medical difficulties, or life-limiting illnesses. It delivers services providing care, support and education to almost 1000 disabled children, adults and young people throughout the country.

These include day services providing individuals with the opportunity to take part in meaningful activities that allow expression, creativity and promote learning. Capability Scotland's two specialist schools ensure that children and young people receive the education and therapy they require to reach their potential.

Community Living Services support individuals to live independently in their own homes and remain active in their local communities, whilst residential services provide a home and community for individuals on a long-term basis. In September 2022, Capability Scotland opened Corseford College; it's the first of its kind in Scotland, offering young people with complex and additional support needs the opportunity to continue their educational journey after they leave school – a right every young person in Scotland should be entitled to.

Capability Scotland has a vision of creating opportunities for lifelong learning and building everyone’s capacity to develop in the world in which they live. Capability Scotland believes that by empowering every individual they can enable him or her to have a voice, realise their ambitions and achieve their full potential. Blackmount Private Wealth supports the incredible work Capability Scotland does each and every day to promote inclusiveness and help their clients achieve their potential.
